Clare Matthews is an artisan residing in Roseburg, Oregon, USA. She received her formal training in Art and Design in Cambridge and Birmingham in her native United Kingdom. Her early career included teaching Art & Design at High School level for two decades in Northwest England’s Lake District, where the mountains, lakes, and wild seashores provided an inspiration for her textile creations. In 2003 Clare was selected for a one year Fulbright Exchange teaching position in the Art Department at Hoover High School, Alabama. This provided an opportunity to experience and explore the American culture and landscape. In 2008 she returned to the Birmingham Alabama area as a permanent resident. 2014 gave rise to another geographical leap to Roseburg. Drawn to the beautiful landscape, she continues to be inspired by nature around her new home. Clare crafts all her pieces for pleasure and has a passion for textiles. She loves their colors, textures, the patterns and the magic they can create. In addition to her personal creations she works to commission and teaches.
